Prints

These prints are created using zinc plates on which the images are developed using a variety of drawing and soft ground processes. They are then printed in limited editions. In some instances the skies have been tinted by rolling a tone onto an inked, wiped plate. In other cases, color is added by hand after the prints have dried.

Prints are matted in cream, acid-free mats.

Framed prints are matted and framed in silver chrome frames with plexiglas.

Prints can be purchased without mats or frames – prices on request.

Naomi's Door

Naomi lived down the road from me for a number of years, and I always liked this door on the end of her house. She has now moved from the home and the door is a different color, though equally as appealing. I expect a new door print will evolve in due course.

New England Meadow

The rocks, the hills, the cows; the quintessential New England meadow. I drove past this particular one over and over again until I finally took the time one day to preserve it for posterity.

New England Winter

This is not a specific place. It is many places, gathered in my mind and combined into the quintessential New England landscape in winter. Most anyone who knows this section of the country can find a place in the memory bank that looks like this.

New Year’s Luck

I read somewhere that paper whites bring luck in the new year. Whether or not this is true, they certainly bring a smile to an often challenging season. Planted just after Christmas, they can make mid-January another gift as one follows the daily progress of those bulbs sitting on the window sill. The fragrance when they finally open is an added reward.

Number 8

A building that was once a gendarmerie in the southern French village of Francescas now is home to a number of apartments, one of which is number 8 Place du Centre. As is often the case in this country, the doorway is quite decorative and the characteristic planter by its side affords a touch of greenery. What drew me to this scene in particular, though, was the pair of clogs left on the doorstep. Their position and the questions they posed in my musings seemed to imbue them with a personality that left me with a bemused smile and a determination to record the scene.

Ocean Cliffs

Over the years I’ve drawn more than one version of this scene - at Acadia, on Hurricane Island, on hiking trips along pieces of the Appalachian Trail. So - I finally decided to put it into print form. The tonal spectrum of rock cliffs is always a fascination for me as is the fact that our omnipresent Maine pines can seemingly grow quite happily out of rock crevices with a minimal amount of soil. I like to think their hardiness is the exemplar that’s taught our population to value and practice the stoic self-sufficiency that characterizes the Maine lifestyle. And - I always feel fortunate that I can live in a place that lets me have the gift of such landscapes.

Ocean Point Afternoon

All prints in this edition have been sold.

At the end of the East Boothbay peninsula, Ocean Point provides one of my favorite scenic picnic spots. It features spruce-topped rocky islands and sky and sea that seems to go on forever. It’s a scene that never grows old and always offers the peace and solace that watching the ocean affords. On this particular day the sky offered an interesting drawing challenge and a chance for an experiment that had a happy outcome.

Old Friends

This pair of white pines has been sharing secrets for a long time. I drive by them quite regularly and sometimes muse about all the things they’ve witnessed over the years. In fact, they sit out in a field, and when I finally visited to draw them one early Spring day I decided to change their outlook a bit and move them to the shore in my picture. Hopefully they’ll enjoy this watery overview as time moves onward.

Onions

At times I like to do colored pencil drawings of vegetables. This print is an etched version of one of those still-lifes.

Oriental Lady

My garden is replete with lilies that fill the air with a sweet scent on August evenings. Uncharacteristically, I planted them at strategic locations so one walks from one fragrant spot to another on my garden pathways. This one usually grows to be about five feet tall, an impressive effort indeed. I like to think of her as having a special mystique, as she is certainly worthy of a place in any White Flower Farm catalog. Her kind has also been in art throughout history. So, it seemed a portrait was in order, hence the “Lady”.
