Prints

These prints are created using zinc plates on which the images are developed using a variety of drawing and soft ground processes. They are then printed in limited editions. In some instances the skies have been tinted by rolling a tone onto an inked, wiped plate. In other cases, color is added by hand after the prints have dried.

Prints are matted in cream, acid-free mats.

Framed prints are matted and framed in silver chrome frames with plexiglas.

Prints can be purchased without mats or frames – prices on request.

Fish in My Garden

This trio of sky blue ceramic trout spends each garden season swimming through a sea of lily-of-the-valley plants outside my studio window. I always smile when I look out and see them, particularly because they consistently look happy to be there.

Francescas Fields

When I first visited a friend in Francescas, a tiny village in the Gascogne region of southern France, it was March and the air was that brisk, invigorating gift featured in early Spring. We regularly walked the roads among newly-planted fields. In some cases rows were covered by hooped lengths of plastic, turned blue in hue by the sky’s reflection. When the wind caught these temporary greenhouses they rippled like waves, looking as though they were a giant Christo installation. I recorded the scene in my journal, and from that drawing this print was born.

Francescas Roofscape

The homes in this French village are built with shared walls, though there is much variation in heights and roof pitches. Varying ages of tiles and pitches mean that roofs end up with all manner of color variation depending upon where water stands or drains - or where mosses or lichens accumulate. Overlooking the rooftops from my friend Franny’s balcony provided this interesting variation on a landscape. The fact that the wisteria growing in the courtyard below me had begun to bloom was an added benefit, as the air was filled with the sweet aroma of the newly blossoming vine.

Getting Ripe

One particularly cool summer, the tomatoes seemed unable to get ripe on the vine, so they were ensconced on the window skill. With the backdrop of the back of the kitchen settee and a view through the vegetation, this scene seemed to need recording, along with the promise of ripe tomatoes.

Gossips

All prints in this edition have been sold.

My annual planting of sunflowers brought forth, one year, this little group. Sunflowers are great fun to draw, as I often find them taking on a sense of humanity - and personalities. In this case, when I was finished, there seemed to be a juicy conversation going on, with a pair of more silent listeners taking it all in.

Grace’s Garage

Our neighbor, when we lived in Oxford, Maryland, was a gracious southern lady named Grace. Behind her house, at the end of her yard was a small garage that could never have housed a horse or car, but certainly had a great deal of classic architectural character. By its door stood a gathering of hollyhocks and larkspur. In concert with the pale blue paint on the garage, they made an irresistibly appealing annual bouquet I decided to record one summer.

Green Garden

The adirondack chairs in my yard are green. So, too, at various parts of the summer, is most of the garden. This print came from my enjoyment of those green periods, when the garden is varied by its shades and textures, a sight I find just as appealing as the periods of color.

Harbingers

In late April, if one is lucky, the daffodils finally appear in bloom, marking the “hot spots” in the yard by the order of their bloom.  Carefully watched from their first tentative peek through the ground, they truly deserve the distinction of being harbingers of the actual Spring, one that appears long after the calendar’s denotation of same.  Sheltered and warmed by a rock wall and its reflected warmth, these are often the first ones in our yard to bloom.

Haystack Winter

Pennsylvania farmland in winter inspired this print as well as several others. This scene was unusual because of the haystacks that were marching across the field and over the horizon.

Hilltop Garden

This print began with the rock, the daylilies, and the birches, all of which I encountered one day walking on Vinalhaven. From that section it grew, with the addition of standard Maine garden fare and not a great deal of sunlight thanks to the overhead tree cover.
